Bun in the Oven

Man, I wish I could have seen some of your facial expressions after reading the title of this post...:)

The ONLY bun in the oven in our household was the bread the kids made yesterday for church this morning. The children in our church were invited to bake the bread in celebration of World Communion Sunday today. When I proposed the idea to my own kids I was met with overwhelming enthusiasm that I thought would fizzle out shortly after we began.

Once again, I was proven wrong. Priya and Deven, in particular, were so gung-ho about baking that I couldn't move quickly enough in preparing the ingredients for them to work with. I haven't seen such excitement in a long time over an activity Mommy has suggested.

We baked the bread this morning and transported it to church for the service. Priya experienced her first ever communion this morning since our faith believes that anyone can partake at the Lord's table if they believe (even little ones). My eyes welled up with tears as she took a piece of the bread, dipped it into the grape juice, and ate. I know that it wasn't nearly as meaningful an experience as it will hopefully be later, but it still touched me very deeply. Later Priya said that the bread was yummy (which it was) and the juice was good, but she didn't like the combination together. Out of the mouths of babes. I bet even Jesus smiled at that comment.

Now, I knew that you aren't expecting but I STILL got the expression that you were hoping for. Cuz ya never know! Just love Deven's "maker" hat. For some reason, that's what Vienne calls a "chef".

Yes, I got scared too! You made me smile. I love the edits you did on the page. Did you do it with pinik.com? I hope I can get a babysitter for Thursday.
